Stephanie Gomez is a young Latina feminist raised in Chicago. Last semester she founded Latinas in Power, a sisterhood that promotes academic success and a firm cultural identity for Latinas in college. Her articles, “Plan Colombia” and “Student Freedom of Speech” have been published in Que Ondee Sola magazine. She has been active in the student movement for a Latino Cultural & Resource Center, which will be opening Spring 2011. Discovering her new "poet’s voice"; she has participated in open mics at Northeastern’s main campus and at El Centro. Turns out, “she was a poet and didn’t even know it”! :)

Visual art is my personal path towards expression of the world around me. Often times, my imagery takes on surreal and mystical elements, asking its viewers (and myself) to create new narratives and perspectives based on seemingly commonplace symbols. I enjoy letting a work "grow", allowing for organic forms and textures to link these concepts together. The end product is never predictable, and unexpected additions help keep myself guessing as much as the audiences need to.
Rachel is a recent graduate of NEIU, where she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts. She also attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where her concentration was painting. Select pieces will be hanging at The Gallery Cabaret October 14th through the end of the month.
